VIRUNGA

Virunga - Projects - Sheridan Wright

Deep in the Albertine Rift Valley, on the eastern flank of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, lies Africa’s oldest and most biologically diverse protected area: Virunga National Park. Through multiple trips over the course of two years, Sheridan captured this series of portraits depicting the daily life and complex family dynamics of the critically endangered mountain gorilla. Shockingly intimate and meticulously framed, the images reveal this mythical creature’s intensely humanlike characteristics, underscoring our eternal connection to the natural world.
